Brown or Black Residue
- Cause: The result of burned milk or formula that spills onto the heating plate during sterilisation.
- Prevention: Make sure to thoroughly clean and rinse bottles before placing them in the steriliser.
White Residue
- Cause: Mineral buildup from water (tap, spring, baby, filtered, or bottled) that evaporates and leaves mineral traces.
- Prevention: Always use distilled water, which contains no minerals.
- Note: If left uncleaned, white hazing can eventually turn brown due to repeated heating cycles.
Does Residue Affect the Steriliser’s Performance?
No, residue on the heating plate does not affect the safety or sterilisation ability of the machine and is not a manufacturing fault. However, we strongly recommend routine cleaning to maintain peak performance and to avoid any unwanted odours from burnt residue.

1. Use a Non-stick Scouring Pad
- Gently scrub the heating plate to remove burnt-on milk or formula.
- This helps lift tough residue without damaging the stainless steel surface.
2. Descale the Plate
- Use a descaling solution (like the Baby Brezza Universal Descaling Tabs, or a vinegar/water mix) to remove mineral buildup.
