The mesh of the gate is extremely strong and secure, and being a fabric has many advantages, such as being a soft surface for your child to fall onto. When the gate is closed, the fabric is taut, but will naturally flex if an obstacle such as a foot is pushed against the bottom of the blind. If the KiddyGuard is mounted too close to the top of the step, this natural “flexing” could create a gap between the bottom of the mesh and the edge of the stair which a child’s foot could slip through. Mounting the gate 15cm back from the top of the stair means that a gap cannot form and your child is protected.
